Arhar dal with Green mango

Arhar dal prepared with raw tarty mango is very different and scrumptious in taste. Raw mangoes are available in market before Holi festival. This tarty dal recipe can be prepared during this time.

Ingredients for Kairi Ki Khatti Dal

  •     Arhar Dal - 1/2 cup (100 grams)
  •     Raw mango - 1 (medium size)
  •     Desi ghee - 2 to 3 tbsp
  •     Green coriander - 2 to 3 tbsp (minced)
  •     Curry leaves - 15 to 20
  •     Green chilly - 2 (chopped lengthwise)
  •     Black mustard - 1/4 tsp
  •     Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
  •     Asafoetida - 1 pinch
  •     Red chilly powder - 1 tsp
  •     Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  •     Coriander powder - 1 tsp
  •     Salt - less than 1 tsp or as per taste
     

How to make Green Mango Tuvar Dal recipe

Wash arhar dal thoroughly and soak for half an hour prior cooking. Take dal, 2 cup water, salt and turmeric powder in a pressure cooker and place it on flame for cooking. After it simmers once, reduce the flame and cook for 2 minutes. Now turn off the flame and open the lid once all steam escapes.

Wash mangoes, peel and take out its pulp and chop in small chunks.

Preheat some ghee in a pan. When ghee is sufficiently hot, add cumin seeds and mustard seeds into it. After sauteing for while, add chopped raw mangoes chunks, turmeric powder, coriander powder, asafoetida and mix well. Also add curry leaves, green chilly, red chilly and 1/2 cup water as well. Cover and cook for 3 to 4 minutes on low flame.

Mango khatai is now ready. Mash it slightly, with help of a  spoon. Open the lid of pressure cooker and add the masala and green coriander in the dal.

Dal with mango khatai is prepared. Take out dal in a bowl. Serve this dal with parantha, chapatti, naan or rice and relish eating.
