Dal (Pulses) are a common recipe made in homes on daily basis. They are rich in protein and Arhar Dal(lentil) is mostly found in Northern part of India, also known as Tuvar Dal or Toor Dal. We can prepare Arhar Dal in many ways. Always keep in mind few things while cooking any Dal. The Dal should not be either overcooked or undercooked, you should be able to see the each Pulse separately. Come today we'll cook Arhar Dal for the Lunch.
Wash and soak Arhar Dal for 1 hour in the water (Its takes less time to cook soaked Dal). Grind tomatoes, green chilli and ginger in a mixer to make a paste.
We can Cook Arhar Dal in two ways.
Heat ghee in a cooker and tamper cumin seeds, heeng, and mustard seeds into it. Let them splutter and then add curry leaves, turmeric powder, coriander leaves to it. Stir the masala and immediately add tomato paste in it. Let it cook for 2-3 minutes. Once the tomato masal gets roasted put arhar dal, salt and red chilli powder into it and cook it for another 1-2 minutes by stirring it with the help of a ladle.
Add 2 cup water (400 gms) in the cooker and close it with a lid and pressure cook it for up to 1 whistle on a medium flame. After the whistle cook it for 304 minutes on a low flame. arhar Dal is ready, open the cooker and garnish the dal with coriander leaves.
Take cooker, put arhar dal and 2 glass of water in it. Add turmeric powder and salt to it. Pressure cook the dal for up to 1 whistles and turn down the flame to medium and cook it for 3-4 minutes. Turn off the flame and meanwhile prepare the tampered masala to add into it.
Take a small pan and heat ghee into it. Add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, heeng and fry them until brown, followed by adding turmeric powder, coriander powder, tomato paste, red chilli powder. Cook the masala till the ghee starts to float at the top. Put this masala into the cooker. Add salt and water according to the need. Arhal Dal is ready. Garnish it with coriander leaves.
Cook Instant Rice in a Microwave along with Arhar Dal.
Ingredients for Rice Recipe
Wash 1 cup rice, and soak it for half an hour before cooking.
Put the rice in a microwave-safe glass bowl and add 2 cup water into it. Pour some ghee over it and microwave it for 12 minutes at maximum temperature.
Take out the prepared dal in a serving dish and garnish it with 1-2 tea spoon ghee and coriander leaves. Serve the arahar dal with rice, chapati or naan.
Cut the raw mango into small pieces and put the pulp of raw mango in the dal ( you can also use Tamarind pulp (Imli pulp) or Kokam water or even Curd)
Take a cooker and put arhar Dal into it. Add water, salt, turmeric powder, coriander powder, mango pulp, and pressure cook it for up to 1 whistle, followed by cooking it for 2-3 minutes after the whistle.
Open the cooker lid and add jaggery, green chilli and ginger into it and cook it for 5 minutes. Dal is ready and now we will prepare a tampered masala to add to it.
Take a small pan and heat ghee into it. Add heeng, cumin seeds, and let them splutter. Now add curry leaves and turn off the flame followed by adding red chilli powder to it. Add this masala into the Dal. Your Arhar Dal in Gujarati style is ready.
Take it out in a serving bowl, and garnish with coriander leaves. Serve it with rice, chapati and naan.
